RESOURCES FOR DOG LOVERS
Please note that while we love all types of dogs and breeds, we are strong supporters of adopting rescue dogs. This is because millions of dogs (and cats) around the world are being put down due to over population.

Rescue Groups in Marin
Second Chance Rescue
www.secondchancerescue.com
Second Chance Rescue (SCR) is a Bay Area non-profit, volunteer-run organization concerned with the welfare of dogs (and all animals). SCR has been rescuing dogs and puppies since 1993. We rescue stray and abandoned adult dogs and puppies from high-kill shelters, place them in caring foster homes (we do not have a facility or shelter) and then adopt them into loving, life-long homes. We have saved the lives of more than 5000 abandoned dogs, while enriching the lives of their adoptive families.
Small Dog Rescue
www.smalldogrescue.org
Small Dog Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)-3 non-profit organization based in San Rafael, CA and serving the San Francisco Bay Area. The group is staffed by a small group of dedicated, unpaid volunteers who rescue small dogs under 20 pounds. We receive no commercial or government funding.
Most of our dogs come from animal shelters all over central California, where thousands of dogs are euthanized every month. We typically rescue the dog after it has not been claimed or adopted, and is scheduled to be euthanized. Because the shelters are oftentimes very full, many loving, adoptable dogs are euthanized.
Marin Humane Society
www.marinhumanesociety.org
Guided by the humane ethic, it is the mission of The Marin Humane Society to protect animals from neglect, abuse and exploitation, to advocate for their interests and welfare, and to inspire awareness and compassion for all living things.
Founded in 1907, The Marin Humane Society is a progressive, award-winning animal shelter, offering refuge and rehabilitation to nearly 8,000 animals each year through a myriad of community services including: adoptions, foster care, behavior and training, humane education, lost and found pet services, low-cost clinics, and more.

Dog Breeds - Getting the Right One for You
American Kennel Club
www.akc.org/breeds
While we are strong supporters of rescue groups we wanted to include this site as it has an extensive list of breeds, their general behavior and pictures so you can identify the breed type. Please keep in mind that there are many pure breed rescue groups and that mixed breeds have dominant breed behavior - for example: if you get a Pointer Mix there is a strong chance your dog will need early socialization and a lot of exercise...you should choose you puppy or adult dog accordingly.
